![]() Moreover, this phenomenon causes light from a coherent source to interfere with itself, which in results in creating a distinctive pattern on the screen called the diffraction pattern. Question 2: What is meant by single-slit diffraction?Īnswer 2: In the single-slit diffraction, observance can be made of the phenomenon of bending of light or diffraction. (b) The drawing shows the bright central maximum and dimmer and thinner maxima. The central maximum is six times higher than shown. Monochromatic light passing through a single slit has a central maximum and many smaller and dimmer maxima on either side. Moreover, the central maxima is obtainable at point 0 on the screen. Discuss the single slit diffraction pattern. Furthermore, central maxima is surrounded by dark and bright lines known as the secondary minima and maxima. Question 1: What is meant by diffraction maxima and minima?Īnswer 1: The diffraction pattern involves a central bright fringe, also known as the central maxima. ⇒ Angular width of central maximum = 2θ = 2λa FAQs For Single Slit Diffraction Well, the width of the central maximum is simply twice this value Now, one may ask how to find width of central maximum. When diffraction of light occurs as it passes through a slit, the angle to the minima (dark spots) in the diffraction pattern is given by d sin n. The position of the minima expressed by y (whose measurement takes place from the centre of the screen) is: Furthermore, it simply refers to the distance between the first order minima from the centre of the screen existing on both sides of the centre. The maxima lies between the minima and the width of the central maximum. Although this effect is small for large apertures. Similarly, for the nth fringe, division of the slit can take place into 2n parts and this condition can be used as: 6.2 Interference and diffraction Huygen ’s Principle Single slit diffraction Circular diffraction The diffraction limit Diffraction effects of apertures When light is passed though an aperture the light beam is smeared out. As such, one can obtain a dark fringe.įor the next fringe, division of the slit can take place into 4 equal parts of a/4 and the same logic can be applied. Therefore, at θ = sin − 1λa, there would be destructive interference because any ray emanating from a point has a counterpart that produces destructive interference. Furthermore, the path difference must be out of phase by λ2, with λ being the wavelength.įor a ray emanating from any point in the slit, there exists another ray at a distance a/2 from which destructive interference can take place. Moreover, one can consider any arbitrary pair of rays at a distance a/2.įor a dark fringe, the path difference must produce destructive interference. ![]() Furthermore, it is possible to consider any number of ray pairings that start from a distance a/2 from one another. The path difference exhibited by the top two rays is:Īn important point to remember is that this calculation is valid only if D is very large. Furthermore, consider a pair of rays whose emanation takes place from distances a/2 from each other. Also, the division of the slit can take place into zones of equal widths a/2. In order to describe the pattern, one must first look at the condition for dark fringes. Now, one can identify the angular position of any point on the screen by ϑ whose measurement takes place from the slit centre which divides the slit by a/2 lengths. x`D is the separation between slit and source. ![]() With the slit being completely open, however, the space between the slits (\(d\)) goes to zero, and the number of slits (\(n\)) goes to infinity.Single Slit Diffraction Formula of Single Slit DiffractionĬonsider that the slit width a << D. One way to think of this is to go back to the diffraction grating case, expressed in Equation 3.3.2. To compute the intensity of the interference pattern for a single slit, we treat every point in the slit as a source of an individual Huygens wavelet, and sum the contributions of all the waves coming out at an arbitrary angle. In a diffraction pattern due to a single slit of width a, the first minimum is observed at an angle 30o when light of wavelength 5000A is incident on the. Significantly more math is required to deal with the intensity of the bright fringes. The bright fringes only approximately follow the same spacing pattern, not exactly located halfway between the dark fringes, but using the pairwise approach doesn't tell us much about the intensity of those bright regions, for the same reason it didn't for the central bright fringe – constructive pairs will not be in phase with other constructive pairs. Hades isn’t a game about reaching the end. ![]() You can even give them certain items that, if you build your relationship enough, will result in additional rewards that deepen the overall progression. They all play a part in the adventure, in that some of them provide context and world-building, while others quite literally provide you with the tools to survive – and ultimately escape.īoth as you encounter them, as well as between each run, whether successful or not, you’ll get the opportunity to speak to them, learn more and grow stronger. These aren’t just any old characters either they’re all from Greek mythology, including Zeus, Hades, Hermes, Achilles and many more. Part of what makes the narrative so good is all the characters. The closest comparison I’ve seen to this is 11bit studios’ Children of Morta, which is another awesome game you should play, by the way. Hades sets the bar incredibly high for narrative in the genre – and, honestly, narrative-driven indie titles in general. You’ll make friends (and enemies) along the way, and the way the game and its characters all know and comment on your overall progression along the way is quite remarkable. I won’t go into any details to avoid spoilers, but the story, in a nutshell, is that you want to escape the Underworld to seek out something – or someone – that’s lost to you. The story unfolds as you play, whether you perish or escape, and it’s a lot deeper than you may expect. ![]() That’s not the case here, however, as Supergiant has managed to quite masterfully interweave a narrative not just during each “run”, but also between them. If you’ve ever played a rogue-lite (or full-on rogue-like) before, you’re probably used to games where the narrative very much takes a backseat due to the inherent challenge in presenting a narrative in a fractured playthrough. The title launched on additional consoles last month and this review is further evidence that Hades is a game pretty much everyone who enjoys being challenged should play – it’s just that good. Platforms: PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, SwitchĬhances are that if you’re into games enough to be reading video game reviews, you already know that Hades is one of the most beloved indie games in recent years. In the John McClane tradition, Will Sawyer is presented as an everyman who is no daredevil, and is frequently quite terrified of the situations he finds himself in. Thurber and Johnson even try to downplay the star’s thousand-watts charisma and movie screen persona by giving him one leg and putting a little gray in the beard. The film savors building up the quixotic movie sets they’ll later burn, and the characterizations that will at least be somewhat touched upon during third act’s plot contortions. Like the four-chord keys of a beloved song from summers past, Thurber’s slight cover evokes an only half-remembered sensation while adding just enough modern reverb to count as being different. Reminiscent of those earlier, more patient action movies of yore than today’s hyper-kinetic, constant sugar-rush blockbusters, writer-director Rawson Marshall Thurber ( Central Intelligence) takes his time building up not only the digitized skyscraper but the narrative momentum. So it is up for all involved to turn this imitation into an at least entertaining one, and on that front Skyscraper mostly hits the mark. Skyscraper is a movie where all of the plot points, betrayals, losses, and victories are telegraphed by virtue of being imitative storytelling. With Sarah and her two adorable twin children (McKenna Roberts and Noah Cottrell) trapped inside, stranded by the fire from either reaching the ground floor or Ji’s penthouse at the top, all hope seems lost.Īlas for Møller’s team though, they didn’t account for one variable: those are the Rock’s Will Sawyer’s loved ones in there, and he’ll put their towering inferno into a headlock before he lets it consume the fam. ![]() Unfortunately, that is also the floor where industrial saboteurs, led by a snarling and perfunctory Roland Møller, begin setting the building ablaze while nameless henchwoman (Hannah Quinlivan) hijacks the structure’s security systems from the outside. Nowadays, they live an idyllic existence with their children as the only family in the skyscraper, resting peacefully on the 96th floor. However, before tourists or terrorists alike can enjoy that observation deck, Ji needs to have the skyscraper’s state of the art security systems signed off on by an inspector named Will Sawyer (Johnson), a loving family man who met his wife, military surgeon Sarah (Neve Campbell), after losing his leg in the line of duty. Ji (Chin Han) has spent billions to build this paradise, which is powered by two wind turbines near the top, just underneath his own personal penthouse suite and an observation deck complete with digital cameras that create a funhouse mirror effect for no discernable reason other than it’d be an awesome way to stage a climactic shootout. Like a double-helixed version of the new World Trade Center in Manhattan, this fictional building is a 220-floor behemoth in downtown Hong Kong called “the Pearl,” and apple of rich man Zhao Long Ji’s eye. Set in a fictional imagining of what the next tallest building in the world might look like, the eponymous Skyscraper is a shiny, reflective city on a manmade hill. As a cheeky and proudly dim actioner that features a one-legged Dwayne Johnson jumping from a crane into a burning skyscraper some hundred feet away, the movie is gloriously kitsch, and with just enough grace to stick its wobbly and delightfully derivative landing. It’s not as good as any of those movies, obviously, but it doesn’t have to be. This is unabashedly unoriginal, and it borrows from much better films that also include GoldenEye, The Dark Knight, and even Orson Welles’ noir classic, Lady from Shanghai. Indeed, there is not a twist or turn, or even action set-piece that dares risk surprising you in Dwayne Johnson’s latest high-concept-one that is so high it literally touches the clouds. So it is no surprise someone eventually just said “what about Die Hard in a Skyscraper? But, you know, on fire this time?” Hence we have the much belated yet mostly welcome Skyscraper, or “Die Hard in the Towering Inferno… and with the Rock!” Back in the ‘90s, it was more or less a cottage industry with “Die Hard on a Mountain” ( Cliffhanger), “Die Hard on a Bus” ( Speed), “Die Hard on a Plane” ( Con Air), and “Die Hard on a Plane Again” ( Air Force One), among others. Attempting remakes of Die Hard is nothing new. Part of AIT is spent in the classroom and part in the field. Also would I just speak with a recruiter and make sure I get the 68C MOS in my contract? I’ve taken the asvab in high school and I remember I scored high enough that they said I could pick what I wanted, but I don’t know if I need to retake it. Is that possible while in the guard, or would drills make that impossible. I plan on going to RN school after getting my LPN. I was planning on going to LPN school next year, and I recently learned that was an option in the guard. ![]() The estate’s efforts may be aided by changing attitudes over Shakur and his legacy. “I think that you’ll see new streams of income from additional forms of licensing and things that just didn’t exist five years ago,” says attorney Donald David, who has worked with the estate for years. As a result, the rapper’s posthumous earnings last were about one-third the $9 million he generated in 2007. No arrest has been made to date in connection with either murder.Creating fresh sources of cash is particularly important for Shakur’s estate, which has already licensed out many of its key rights and has released most of the extensive cache of music that the rapper left behind. Six months later, Shakur’s rap rival, Christopher Wallace, was murdered in similar circumstances in Los Angeles. On September 13, 1996, however, Tupac Shakur died of his wounds. Emergency surgery at University Medical Center saved Shakur’s life that night, and in the days following, doctors announced that his chances of recovery had improved. At least 12 shots were fired, four of which struck Shakur and one of which grazed the head of Suge Knight. Hours later, Shakur was riding as a passenger in a car driven by Death Row Records head Marian “Suge” Knight when a white Cadillac pulled up alongside them at a stoplight on Flamingo Road and opened fire. In Las Vegas on September 7, 1996, for the Mike Tyson-Bruce Seldon boxing match, Shakur and others in his entourage were captured on tape in the lobby of the MGM Grand hotel engaging in a violent scuffle with a man later identified as a member of the Los Angeles-based Crips street gang. A steady stream of posthumous album releases has kept his name near the top of lifetime sales rankings, and artistic efforts like the 2003 film Tupac: Resurrection have kept his image and music current among fans who were far too young to have seen and heard him perform while he was still alive.
